Alexis Pozdol’s reach stretches further than her position as the Senior Lifestyle Counselor at Rittenhouse Village at Valparaiso, where she thrives on the responsibility she has to provide assistance to anyone in her community. Pozdol works as an advocate for families who need guidance in helping them determine where their family member best fits. This assistance extends outside of Rittenhouse Village, as she works with each family to find the perfect solution, whether it be at Rittenhouse Village or another alternative. This works because of the strong ties the assisted living center has in the community, other skilled nursing facilities, and independent living centers.
“The people I meet here, whether they are coming to Rittenhouse or another facility, we work together through everything,” Pozdol said. “It’s a journey. I make phone calls with other places in the community and set up tours. Just because Rittenhouse might not be a good fit, we will help find a solution for you. I work with each family to find a solution."
Additionally, she continues to help the families who have left Rittenhouse Village and be a support system they might need. It’s clear that Pozdol has a positive energy as she takes an optimistic approach to her position.
“I believe the senior living community can sometimes be looked down upon, so Rittenhouse embraces this phase in life. This is a new opportunity to enjoy life and progress, wherever that person is currently at,” Pozdol said.
Pozdol has been an excellent ambassador for Rittenhouse, which provides a comforting home-style atmosphere. She works with people during a time in their lives when the home acts as the most secure type of comfort.
“It's difficult for older adults to downsize the home they worked so hard for their lives,” Pozdol said. “To come to a smaller place, a one bedroom apartment, I understand those struggles and I try to provide the solution for that and overcome that, in a fun way.”
Rittenhouse Village wants to make this time of anyone's life easily accessible and possible. Rittenhouse Village is the only senior living community in the area that holds The Rent Lock Program, an agreement for families and seniors who decide to partner with them that states their rent will never go up from the original rate.
“There is no catch. It is what it is. Helping families finance this way is a huge help to them. The community needs to know about this,” Podzol said.
In her time with Rittenhouse Village, Podzol has gone above and beyond to cultivate relationships with guests and show them how much they are appreciated.
“I take it upon myself at least 2-3 times a week to spend time with a resident and get to know them,” Pozdol said. “The joy that appears just from taking the time to reach out is enough.”
