Cars have been a passion for Randy Kawanna, Service Manager at Southlake Nissan, since he was a teenager. With over 26 years of experience working on cars and meeting customers’ needs, Kawanna provides passionate and skilled leadership at the Southlake Auto service department.
Kawanna’s interest in cars and his skilled approach to repairs have been fostered since he was young. He learned solely through hands-on training which fully equipped him for a successful career in auto repair.
“I started in the business when I was about 15-years-old. I have had three jobs in my lifetime, all within the automotive industry,” Kawanna explained.
He started off working at an independent auto shop in Dyer. After three years there, he moved on to work for nine years as a service manager at a larger dealership specializing in Chevrolet automobiles. He has spent the last 14 years at Southlake Auto, and he wholeheartedly enjoys what he does.
“You meet and interact with different customers. Everything’s different day to day,” he said. “It’s basically the same routine, but different job obstacles daily.”
Kawanna embraces the challenge and loves the cars, but he has a passion for the people. Friendly, considerate, and with a proactive attitude, Kawanna makes sure that everyone who comes through Southlake Auto’s service doors feels welcome.
“I like to meet the people as they pull up in the service drive. I like to follow-up, get to know them a little personally,” said Kawanna. “I have a pretty good memory where people are not just numbers. I like to meet them and greet them by their first and last name.”
This personalized service is key to Kawanna’s and Southlake Auto’s approach to business. In fact, much of the reason that he has stuck around for so long is the sincere relationship that he has developed between the owners and his co-workers.
“I’ve been with Mr. Kors and Sonny for 14 years. They treat me, the customers, and their employees like family,” Kawanna explained. “It’s more of a personalization, more than just an employee-employer relationship. You’re not just a number. They ask how your family’s doing. Overall, it’s just a good environment.”
