2013 Annual Duneland Meeting and Board Installation

The 2013 Annual Meeting and Board Installation at the Sand Creek Country Club proved that the past year has gone exceptionally well and this coming year will be just as fruitful.

“We are looking forward to a lot of opportunities in this coming year. We will be building on the growth that we saw last year in the Duneland Community which started with Fransiscan Alliance and their emergency room in Porter Hospital and their new hospital‘s rehab facility,” Mary Fox, former president; said about some of what this year has in store. “The Urschel Laboratory is another thing to look forward to in Duneland.”

Fox, who has been on the Duneland Chamber of Commerce since 2009, reported that the financial budget was met easily and new revenue streams were created thanks to La Porte locals. She was also very glad to address that the European Market and Mistletoe Market outperformed all of the previous years.

Among all the various good news happening, council members recognized outgoing board members as well.

“As board members leave us, it’s hard to see them go. We don’t really let go of them,” Heather Ennis, the Duneland Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, voiced.

Mark Chamberlain, who took the leadership role on the Board of Directors, and Bob Capehart, representing Arcelor Mittal Steel as the Chairman of the Ambassador Committee, were mentioned. Chamberlain is known for his formation of the Chamber Economic Development Committee and the revitalization of the Duneland Economic Development Company.

Ennis shared about Capehart, “His willingness to serve is only superseded by his true desire to see others do well. He is always around with a word of encouragement for the staff and members alike… Bob is not only a great supporter of ours, but of many other member organizations: Duneland Exchange Club, Duneland Education Foundation and many others…”

After the new President of the Duneland Chamber of Commerce, Tracy Freeze, accepted the gavel from Mary Fox, Freeze presented a resolution to the council about the Urschel Laboratory headquarter relocation to Coffee Creek which everyone welcomed wholeheartedly.

“I am so excited to be standing up here today in front of you as your new president of the Duneland Chamber of Commerce. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity to serve a community that I truly love,” Freeze said.

Freeze echoed Fox when asked how it felt to be the new president by saying, “It’s a wonderful feeling; I’m very proud to represent our community and I look forward to a really successful and productive year.”
