NW-ISBDC New Collaboration, EDGE Honors Celebrated

nwi-sbdcIn this issue, we are marking a new partnership with Gary, its Economic Development Corp. and Accion. Business advisor Bill Gregory will be on hand once a month to help Gary residents ready for business ownership.

We also are celebrating this year's EDGE Award winners: Circle Tool Supply and Legacy Environmental Services Inc. They were honored during a Statehouse ceremony.

We sat down with Legacy owners Carl and Lorrie Lisek to discuss their growth since launching 10 years ago in a Video Success Story.

lorri-feldt-isbdcThe Northwest ISBDC is partnering with Gary and its Economic Development Corp. as well as micro-lender Accion to offer residents business and financial guidance.

As a result of the partnership, NW-ISBDC business adviser Bill Gregory and an Accion representative will be on hand from 9 a.m. to noon the first Tuesday of the month at the annex building, 839 Broadway. Initially, individuals may walk in and appointments may be accepted in the future.

Businesses recognized

Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann joined business leaders from across the state recently to present 20 companies with the Indiana Small Business Development Center's Economic Development through Growth and Entrepreneurship (EDGE) Awards during a Statehouse ceremony.

EDGE awards

Sponsored by the Indiana Economic Development Corporation's Small Business Development Centers, the awards recognize clients of the agency's 10 regional offices located throughout the state in two categories - emerging and established. Recipients are chosen by their regional centers.

The Northwest ISBDC honorees include Schererville-based Circle Tool Supply owned by Chris Byrd in the Emerging Category and Crown Point-based Legacy Environmental Services, owned by Carl and Lorrie Lisek, in the Established Category.

As "eco-preneurs" Carl and Lorrie Lisek are helping clients focus on being "greener."

"As an environmental consulting company, we help them implement programs to help them green their efforts," said Lorrie, president of Legacy Environmental Services Inc.

The team works with a range of clients from municipalities and schools to large and small businesses to determine a sustainable strategy that may include funding through grants.

"We can help them reduce their carbon footprint and anything that has to do with 'green,'" said Carl, vice president of Legacy.
