Help Us Put the Marquette Plan into Action!

mapOne of the Northwest Indiana Regional Development Authority's key tasks is implementing the Marquette Plan to increase public access to, and facilities on, the Lake Michigan shoreline. To this end, the RDA and shoreline communities have invested more than $200 million over the past ten years in shoreline improvements in Hammond, Whiting, Gary, East Chicago and Portage. This investment is projected to create more than 1,000 jobs, primarily in the tourism and hospitality industries, and add more than $90 million annually to the region's economy by 2025.

Our work on the shoreline is done in cooperation with the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission (NIRPC), which recently updated the Marquette Plan to reflect the work done over the past decade. Now, NIRPC is looking for your input on how best to proceed.

The Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission is releasing a survey to inform the Marquette Action Plan. Responses to this survey are crucial for producing the Marquette Action Plan. To further this plan, NIRPC wants to know how people experience and access Lake Michigan

The Lake Michigan Access Survey can be found here. Please take a few minutes to make your opinion heard, and share the link with anyone you know who is interested in making our lakefront the best that it can be.
