Albert’s Diamond Jewelers Puts Clients and Community First

For over 100 years, Albert’s Diamond Jewelers has been serving the Northwest Indiana communities. The business was founded in East Chicago in 1905 by Albert Rubinstein and in 1960 it was taken over by the Halpern family. Ever since that time, Fred Halpern, his son Joshua, the rest of the family, and the extended family that are the employees at Albert’s Diamond Jewelers have been helping their customers create and keep great memories.

Now located in Schererville with a second location open in the Southlake Mall in Merrillville, Albert’s Diamond Jewelers has been leading by example in what ways a business can thrive in Northwest Indiana. The mission statement of Albert’s is: Offer more in value than we accept in payment.

“It’s all about the client and we’re very in tune with trying to fulfill and exceed our client’s needs,” Joshua Halpern, President of Albert’s Diamond Jewelers said. “We sell top quality merchandise but in the end people will come back to a place that they are comfortable with and to people that they like so we are all about the relationships and our community. We make each experience that our clients have unforgettable.”

All who enter Albert’s are immediately greeted by the educated, friendly staff members. After taking in the kind words and friendly smiles, guests are delighted by the sight before them. Albert’s showroom is large and inviting. Jewelry, time pieces, loose gems, and other items from top quality brands and designers sparkle and shine brightly in their spotless cases.

Proposals, anniversaries, birthdays, holidays, Valentine’s Day, and other occasions bring people in to Albert’s because they know that in order to make the moment special, there really is only one place to go.

“Clients will not find a larger selection of jewelry and timepieces anywhere else; they come to us because they know we have what they need,” Joshua said. “We constantly seek out the latest trends in jewelry and timepieces and are able to do so because of the strong relationships we build with our vendors and our very talented merchandiser… From a physical growth standpoint, we cannot expand or grow our business without the expansion of our knowledge base. Training and product knowledge is ongoing; the learning process is never static at Albert’s.”

Something that is very important to Albert’s Diamond Jewelers is its community. People from the Region frequent the store and many are repeat, life-long clients who believe in shopping local. Albert’s loves to give back in any way possible, and there are many philanthropic activities that the business is involved in. A particular area of interest for the Halpern family is Multiple Sclerosis. Donna Halpern, Josh’s mother, was diagnosed with MS in her late 20s and for the last 12 years an auction has been held with proceeds benefiting the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

A romantic note about Donna and Fred. Eight years after the Halperns took over Albert’s, Fred married his sweetheart, Donna, on Valentine’s Day in 1968. It has been celebrated each year since on the same day not only by the couple but by other couples in the community as they come to Albert’s to exchange vows.

Other community initiatives that Albert’s champions include: The Northwest Indiana Chapters of the American Cancer Society, Kidney Foundation, Parkinson’s Foundation, Tradewinds, the Global Enrichment Foundation/Convoy for Hope, and more. Albert’s also hosts special events where they honor students and veterans. Most Improved Student Day and Hometown Heroes honor young people and soldiers are awarded for their efforts with timepieces from Albert’s Diamond Jewelers.
