Statement from Methodist Hospitals President & CEO, Ray Grady, Regarding Strategic Partnership Development Plans

rot1Methodist Hospitals’ Board of Directors recently met to discuss whether Methodist Hospitals should remain independent or explore the possibility of partnering with another leading hospital or health care system. It is imperative that we carefully consider our options to determine the right course of action. The leadership team and Board of Directors are currently working closely together with outside counsel to determine what is in the best interest of our employees, physicians, patients and the communities we serve.

Health care reform has put greater pressure on hospitals and health care systems to increase access to care while also minimizing costs. This has made it challenging for many organizations to navigate this new marketplace independently. After numerous inquiries from health care organizations about potential partnerships, we believe that an assessment of all options is an important part of our due diligence to position Methodist Hospitals for continued growth and future success, while continuing our perpetual commitment to provide exceptional patient care to the Gary and Merrillville communities.

Please rest assured that Methodist Hospitals is financially stable and we are operating from a place of strength. This enables the Board and Leadership team to devote time to thoughtful conversations and deliberations while making the decision whether to remain independent or explore potential partnerships. Most importantly, Methodist Hospitals is committed to ensuring that any decision will further the organization’s mission to provide compassionate, quality health care services to all those in need, and also complement its strong culture, values and beliefs.
