Oak Partners, Inc. Hold Thier 8th Annual March Madness Event at True BBQ

Oak Partners threw a successful day of barbecue, beer, and basketball. About 110 clients were invited to True BBQ and Whiskey Bar, where they spent time getting to know each other, all while enjoying some March Madness college basketball.

Oak Partners hosts about 50 events throughout the year, which are all geared toward providing information to their clients, or spending time with them.

For the past 8 years, Oak Partners has hosted the event. In the last 3 years the event was chosen to be held at True BBQ. Clients were invited to stop by anytime between 1 p.m. and 10 p.m. to enjoy food, drinks, and of course, the basketball tournament.

“Today is a great recreational event, where we just hangout with our clients. It’s so much fun. Some of the clients here tonight have been with us for a month, and some of them have been clients for 15 years. We know these people so well, they’re like family to us." said Crystal DeHaven, Director of Client Experience.

With nearly 200 people last year, the event finally outgrew it’s small, one venue status. This year, 110 people will celebrate March Madness at True BBQ in Munster, and 65 will spend their evening at the Youche Country Club in Crown Point.

The event aims to uphold the connection Oak Partners loves to have with clients, while also enjoying some quality basketball.

“We differ from other financial firms because we don’t just speak about new products or new ideas, but we really spend time with our clients in a more casual environment, said Joe Starkey, a wealth advisor with Oak Partners. “We get to enjoy basketball, and they get a chance to learn more about us as people, and we learn more about them as people, outside of the seriousness of financials.”

It’s one of the biggest social events Oak Partners throws.

“I love this event. It’s no frills, no education, just hanging out with the clients,” said Jason Urbaniak, a partner. "We like to host the event from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. so that people can stop by on their lunch or come from dinner, we want everyone to have a chance to get together," he said.

The event is important to the clients as well. The gathering allows them to learn about their financial advisors outside of the office.

“It’s a nice, casual way to rub shoulders. It’s their way of showing us appreciation which is nice. Too many financial advisors, doctors, or lawyers, don’t really intermingle with their clients. Oak Partners see the necessity to do that,” said client Jim Seroczynski, President of Ridgemoor Builders. “There are many events during the event during the year, and I try to go to all of them.”

Some of the clients have even been the March Madness event many years in a row. This was the third year for clients Clients Bonnie and Mike O'Grady.

"Oak Partners has a very friendly staff, and we always enjoy their events. We love coming here," Mike O'Grady commented.

“It’s a great venue, we’re having a great time, we even brought out friends along to spend time with us!” Bonnie O'Grady added.
