If you like a good glass of wine like I do, then finding a restaurant with a good selection for a romantic occasion or a night out sans kid is important and even vital at times. Fortunately, our own local Kelsey’s Steakhouse has a great selection for any occasion or to pair with any meal they have on offer. So, let’s go on a voyage through the vineyards of the world and see where Kelsey’s can take us.
Not everyone is the biggest fan of white wines, but if you are looking for something with just the right amount of sweetness then look no further. This wine, as many great wines these days, comes from California, and has hints of citrus, pineapple and mango as well as a faint hint of honey and toasted oak for a pleasant finish. This wine pairs excellently with a balanced dessert or seafood.
Vina Zaco Tempranillo Rioja
Riojas are a Spanish wine I cannot help but enjoy and recommend whenever I get the chance, ever since I first sampled one a few years ago. For those who like a dry, deep-purple wine with a hint of spice, this is the wine for you. It is just fruity enough to give a sample of sweetness and with just enough spice to balance it out and give your pallet a long, pleasant finish. Pairs well with a juicy steak and good conversation.
Another Spanish red wine from the Raimat region in Catalonia, this wine is great if you are looking for a lighter-bodied drink with strawberry and cherry aromas and floral notes as well. Rose’s have been spurned by wine connoisseurs for many years but have recently made a comeback and become a rising favorite among wine drinkers worldwide, the elegant notes of the Raimat Rose are a testament to why.
Twenty Bench Cabernet
Another California wine, this is an inky-dark burgundy, you should let this one react with the air first before sampling to get the best experience. It has aromas of black cherry, blackberry, chocolate and espresso as well as a balanced spice of black pepper and a smokiness of the aged barrel. It pairs excellently with a steak or seafood and has a smooth, rich finish.
Septima Gran Reserva
Going to Argentina this time, The Gran Reserva is a Malbec blend from Mendoza with a nice balance of fruitiness and acidity as well as some smokiness that will leave you wanting more. As with many of the reds described, this would go excellent with a steak and even lobster, and provide a rich balance for your taste buds to revel in.
King Estate Pinot Noir
Another region that should not be overlooked is the Wilamette Valley in Oregon, which has been producing many fine wines for years, but which has been receiving more exposure in recent years. This Pinot Noir is made from organic grown grapes and has notes of cherry, strawberry and cranberry balanced with a rich spice that would pair well with steak or chocolate.
