McAfee Animal Hospital Receives AAHA Accreditation 32 Years in a Row!

At McAfee Animal Hospital, they know that our furry friends are more than just animals; they are a part of the family. With American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) accreditation for 2017, the hospital continues to ensure that local pets get the care they need.

McAfee Animal Hospital has been serving Northwest Indiana since 1943. Over these years, the hospital has strived to continuously improve its medical treatment for animals by passing down knowledge across three generations and adopting the newest practices. As evidence for this impressive approach, McAfee has received AAHA accreditation since 1986.

“It’s always a big accomplishment for the whole staff,” said Dr. Brooke McAfee, third generation veterinarian at the animal hospital. “It’s an accomplishment for everybody and everyone puts in a ton of hard work to make this happen.”

AAHA is an organization that prides itself on making sure animal hospitals across the United States and Canada are the leading veterinary facilities of the 21st century. To do this, hospitals are evaluated every three years on more than 900 standards ranging from patient care, to cleanliness, to recordkeeping. The standards are re-evaluated on a regular basis, guaranteeing that all animal hospitals are being judged based on cutting edge technology and current research findings.

“AAHA is a group that holds us to higher standards and it helps us to be the best hospital we can be,” McAfee said. “To us, that helps us provide the best care that we can to our patients.”

This accreditation is particularly impressive because it's voluntary. Veterinary hospitals are not required to be accredited, but McAfee Animal Hospital holds itself to a high standard because they care so much about providing high quality care to pets. Furthermore, only 12 to 15 percent of animal hospitals across the United States and Canada have achieved this recognition, making this veterinary hospital the best in its class!

“It runs in our blood. We have such a love for animals and it’s something [my family] has always wanted to do,” McAfee said. “A lot of these clients have seen my grandpa and they saw my dad and now they see me. We are a community; we are a family-run business.”

For pet owners, this is key. Treating family pets with respect is a way of acknowledging what the animals mean for a family. Pets bring a whole lot of joy to a home, and the McAfee Animal Hospital is here to make sure that your pet is healthy and happy for as long as possible.

Come out and celebrate with McAfee at their 75th Anniversary open house on July 21st! This is a huge accomplishment for both the hospital, the family, and the community, and everyone is welcome!
