1st Source Bank is looking to change the way clients view their banking experience with side-by-side banking, a new concept designed to bring both the banker and client closer to one another to create a more comfortable and personal banking experience.
"One thing we did with the side by side concept is the removal of physical barriers from banking, the whole teller line and being across from the teller," says 1st Source Bank Banking Center Manager Gerardo Del Real. "The unknown of what is on the screen is gone so now I'm up here, they are able to turn their screen and I am able to see the transaction, the account balance and make sure that everything adds up."
Side-by-side banking was designed to create a more personal feel for customers and to give them a more active role in their banking transactions. 1st Source removes the teller that acts as a barrier between the banker and the client and allows the client the opportunity to fee more at ease when doing financial transactions. This includes both the tellers and the bankers whose offices and desks have also been created to let the client sit next to the banker and have a full view of their screen.
Along with the side-by-side option between tellers and customers, the philosophy of customer inclusion and making a more comfortable experience extends to the entirety of the building.
"We have a coffee bar where our clients are able to come in transact their business and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea," says Del Real. "We also have added a customer convenience center where our clients can utilize our internet ready I-Pads to access mobile banking or personal business matters."
For families and children who are accompanying their parents into the bank, children have access to a Kids Corner while allows adults to transact business while children have access to I-Pads loaded with games and books to read.
"Many of the parents have loved this idea," says Del Real. "They like that that can conduct business while their children are occupied. "We looked to make this a very welcoming place, we looked to make this a comfortable environment where they can walk in, transact business as well as complete other things."
Client response has been positive according to Del Real, who sites that many of the customers were impressed not only by the functionality and availability of services but the inclusion of the Kids Corner that brings out positive responses from parents visiting the bank.
"I feel that we're having such as positive response at this location that it will potentially become a trend," says Del Real. "Many of our clients do like the side-by-side concept that extends even to our banker's desk where they can see everything I do on screen and work with them. That level of trust is there and that level of security as well."
