A real estate agent in Valparaiso for more than 23 years, Nancy Glickauf has seen and sold everything—from apartments, a school, a church and a farm to an entire neighborhood. One of the homes Nancy sold was used as a shooting location for a B movie while it was listed for sale, and she has even worked with Ivanka Trump’s attorney.
Nancy sold her first house, a Franklin Street residence for $45,000, in 1989 when interest rates were 14% and she has been happily selling real estate ever since.
“I love everything about real estate. I love the people and the homes,” said Nancy and she calls the numerous referrals she receives an honor. “Nowadays, ninety percent of my business comes from referrals. My next closing is someone I played softball with over 30 years ago.”
“My real estate career has given me a family of friends,” continued Nancy. “One client I met in real estate ended up being my daughter’s godmother. That’s really good rapport.”
Nancy also has a passion for helping others, which has led her to take a position as the treasurer of the AIDS Task Force of LaPorte and Porter Counties in the past and, more recently, to volunteer for the Porter County Chapter of the American Red Cross. “I just think everybody should give back if they can, in any way they can,” urged Nancy.
Nancy stands strongly behind the mission of the Porter County Chapter of the American Red Cross and praises the good work they do, including the impressive amount of money, food, housing and aid they give. “They’re just an amazing group,” gushed Nancy.
As an American Red Cross volunteer, Nancy traveled to Henryville, IN earlier this year with her husband Tom to provide aid to residents affected by the March tornadoes. Nancy toured the area with a social worker and her husband, who performed disaster assessments of the damaged homes. Nancy acted as a caseworker, providing financial aid from the Red Cross to homeowners who had lost or needed repairs on their homes.

The trip helped Nancy to better understand the meaning of the word home. “Seeing the devastation in Henryville really put in perspective what people’s homes are all about and what homes mean to them,” reflected Nancy. “Everyone was so grateful for any help and I received a lot of heartfelt hugs.”
A lifelong resident of Valparaiso, Nancy worked at the Porter Regional Hospital for a total of thirteen years, most spent in the wellborn nursery, followed by a short stint in the ICU. Nancy and her husband of 32 years are proud parents of two children, Daniel, 31, and Haley, 21, and grandparents to the three children of Daniel and his wife, Emily.
Nancy enjoys traveling in her free time, most recently to Europe where she stayed in a house that is more than 500 years old and Costa Rica where Nancy was invited into her tour guide’s home, which had no windows or doors. “Once again, I noticed how people are so generous and loving no matter what their circumstances are,” said Nancy.
