Century 21 Alliance Group and Lakeshore PAWS Working Together to Create Happy Homes

Century21LakeshorePAWSIt’s often easy to forget the human side of businesses. It’s easy to forget that behind the daily business dealings, there is a human face that brings humanity to each and every person there.

At Century 21 Alliance Group, Jeanne Sommers doesn’t just sell houses, she’s also in the business of forever homes, looking for ways for pets to find a loving family to take care of them and care for them as one of their own.

Sommer along with her job as a broker/owner at Century 21 Alliance Group, is also the executive director of Lakeshore PAWS, a volunteer run, non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing pets that have been abandoned and are unwanted. Lakeshore PAWS was created in 2011, after the number of dogs without home in Valparaiso became too unbearable for Sommers to handle.

“It breaks my heart to see so many pets without homes and without anyone to care for them,” says Sommer. “I wanted a place that could find these animals and give them to loving families that would bring them into a “forever home”, or a home that would keep and care for the pet and not give them away again.”

Lakeshore PAWS specializes in rescuing dogs and cats, and also hosts volunteer sessions where people can donate as little as 20 minutes walking and caring for the animals there. In the past, Lakeshore PAWS has even rescued two horses, saving them from an untimely end.

“While real estate is my main job, and I love it, my true passion lies here. I love helping animals and I’ve been helping them as long as I can remember,” says Sommer.

While Century 21 Alliance group prides itself on their top employees and experts in the real estate market, Century 21 also prides itself on the number of employees who volunteer their spare time working and helping the animals at Lakeshore PAWS.

“There are so many people here who help out when we have events open to the public,” says Sommer. “We have a lot of people who also care deeply about animals and want them to be with loving and caring people as well.”

Century 21 employees have done everything from helping out with public events, fundraisers to simply coming in to look after and play with the animals there to keep them engaged and happy.

“I think it’s great that so many who work here also care about animals, I think it’s what makes it so great, you can really tell the character behind someone who is willing to care for all of these lost and abandoned animals,” says Sommer.

There are many businesses within the community that are great at what they do, but very few that bring the human element and humanity that can so often go overlooked in the real estate and business world. Century 21 Alliance Group cares not just for finding that perfect home for people, but making sure any furry friends find that perfect home as well.
