A New Home is Coming to Valpo Thanks to Hines Plumbing

Hines Plumbing is in the process of flipping a house! People all over Valparaiso contribute to the city’s beautification, and Jack Hines, a Valpo resident, is doing his part.

“We wanted to restore something that shouldn’t be torn down,” Hines said. “And I love construction. I love bringing things back to life.”

The house is on 710 Franklin Street in Valpo. It’s a pretty two-story house with light yellow paint, “nectar” is the official name of the shade, and white trim. It was built in the 1800s and when Jack and his crew got to it, it was filled with newspapers and magazines and other clutter. They actually found some neat, collectible bits of news and whatnot.

“So the house was structurally sound, but it needed some upgrades to be up to date and up to code,” Jack said. “We started in April and plan to be done in September.”

So far they cleaned out the papers, put in new insulation, plumbing, cabinets, another bathroom was added, the laundry room was moved from the basement to the main floor, the yard was regraded, and new doors were added. But things aren’t done yet, there is landscaping to be done, new gutters to add, a fresh coat of paint, and more.

“We wanted to keep as much of the original structure as possible because it’s a beautiful house. We kept the original trim and windows, there’s a coach garage with alley access, and the stairs are original, too.”

Overhead Door of Northwest Indiana is also involved, making sure the garage is in tip top shape.
