The Business of Helping Others: An Interview with Century 21 Alliance Group’s Roxanne Chayhitz

Roxanne Chayhitz wants to make you happy. Whether you're buying a home, selling a home or participating in Valparaiso's many community events, Chayhitz, a real estate agent for Century 21 Alliance Group is invested in making sure that goals are reached and dreams are realized.

"I was always interested in houses and real estate, I always loved homes and decor," says Chayhitz. I originally had a background in construction, working as construction director and facility manager for a Chicago-based construction company."

Chayhitz spent 18 years working in the construction field but always hung on to her interest in real estate due to her constant engagements with real estate organizations.

"I enjoyed my work but after awhile I was ready to take my career to the next level, I was also tired of commuting to Chicago every day and wanted a job that allowed me to work closer to home."

Chayhitz found her way to Century 21 Alliance Group, an easy decision for her since she had already had a close friendship with broker and owner Jeanne Sommers for over 20 years and loved how she conducted business.

Once Chayhitz began her new career as an agent, she found it to be an immensely satisfying experience and one that allowed her the opportunity to help those in need and create long-lasting relationships with her clients.

"It just gives a sense of great satisfaction," says Chayhitz. "I get to find the perfect home for people and be a part of one of the most important decisions in their lives. You get to learn about people's lives and circumstance on why they are looking for a new home. Every situation is different, listening to their stories is one of the most important parts."

Chayhitz also credits the strong support system herself and other agents working at Century 21 have access to, crediting its many resources as one of the reasons why agents find so much success through Century 21.

"I love the support here, there are always a lot of training options and resources to help agents every step of the way," says Chayhitz. "We have each other's backs and I have had times when they have helped me during open houses as well as giving feedback."

Every day is a learning process for Chayhitz and every new client and opportunity provides a new opportunity to gain more knowledge and learn more about the lives of her clients.

"A story that sticks out to me is one time when I was helping clients who were both listing and buying the same home. I spent a large amount of time with both of them and discovered how they were both very similar kinds of people," says Chayhitz. "I knew that once they got to know each other a friendship would happen. They ended up telling me later on that it was a "God thing" and the two ended up forming a lifelong friendship and now go to church together."

Along with working in real estate, Chayhitz is heavily involved in the Valparaiso community. She is a member of the Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce as well as a regular volunteer for Lakeshore PAWS, 500 Turkeys and Break the Hunger. She is also involved with the Valparaiso Police Department as her husband is a Valparaiso police officer.

Chayhitz enjoys being an active member of the Valpo community and along with her volunteer efforts, enjoys what the community has to offer.

"It's a beautiful community and a wonderful place to raise a family. There is so much to do and so many ways to be connected," says Chayhitz.

At the end of the day in both her career and community work, Chayhitz excels when helping others. She is always looking for the next opportunity to help someone new and eagerly awaits when that next opportunity will arrive.

"The joy is taking people to the next level, sometimes people fall into sad circumstances and we have to be that special person to help them out. I'm not only a full-time broker but I'm also a supporter, I'm here to listen," says Chayhitz.
