Building Trust and Cherishing Family Bring Yvonne Sabocik Joy in Her Life and Career

There are those of us who work for a paycheck and then there are the fortunate few who find their passion in life and do what they love. Twenty-nine years ago, Yvonne Sabocik became one of those people when she followed a hunch and jumped in with both feet into the real estate industry and hasn’t left yet.

“I thought it would be nice to do something different,” Mrs. Sabocik said thoughtfully. “My kids were younger at the time and I just thought it would be a really good thing to get into and I jumped in with both feet and fell in love with it.”

Indeed, having lived in the area for her entire life, she knows the area very well and passes that knowledge on to her buyers and sellers.

“I’m a marketing specialist. I’ve been in real estate for 29 years. I love working with buyers and sellers. Veterans and seniors as well. I do commercial and residential. I enjoy every bit of it,” Sabocik said.

"For the last 10 years, she’s been working for Century 21 Alliance in Valparaiso for Nick and Jeanne Sommer. She says they’re like family there. She loves working for them and “[Nick and Jeanne] are really great people. That’s what made me want to join them.”

“They’re really great down to earth people to work for,” Sabocik mentioned, “always there to help you when needed. Very educational. It’s important to work with a company that knows what’s going on in the area and in real estate.”

Sabocik loves the area very much and has deep roots in Northwest Indiana. “I’ve lived in Northwest Indiana my whole life,” she continued. “My family lives here. My husband works in the steel mills. He also helps me in real estate. My daughters are here and my grandson as well. I have two daughters and two grandsons. We take care of my father in law as well as he enters old age.”

Most think that realtors only deal with residential homes, but there are several different types of markets that realtors can represent. Sabocik is one of those that took her knowledge and love of the Region and expanded beyond just residential listings.

But not everyone realizes that real estate is a tough market and there are a lot realtors out there. So how do you know who to trust?

Sabocik seems to know the obvious answer, “It’s a very tough job. My goal is, whenever I meet a buyer or seller, is to break through that ice and become their friend and build my rapport with them so they know they can trust me.”

Trust is the cornerstone of any relationship, but especially someone who is helping you buy or sell a home. There is so much riding on that prospect, and Sabocik understands that and helps establish that bond of trust.

Helping so many people is at the core of why she has stayed in the industry for so long.

“I just love working with the public and making people happy," Sabocik said. “My success is knowing what I’m doing and being good at it. If you don’t know what you’re doing then people won’t trust you,” she replied. “I try to set goals all the time and try to achieve them. Once I achieve one then I go on to the next one.”

Looking forward has always been Sabocik’s strong suit, which means she already has plans for the future.

“I plan on extending my license to more than one state. I’m looking to get a license in Florida as a seasonal type, a snowbird type of thing, and eventually, maybe move out that way. I’d also like to get my license in Michigan," she explained.

Caring for her friends and family, leveraging her extensive knowledge and experience in real estate and ongoing pursuit of her goals means that Sabocik, and Century 21 Alliance, have a bright future ahead of them.
