Free Online Training for Hoosiers

state-flag-indianaThe Department of Workforce Development is offering free online training through WorkOne to help Hoosiers build the skills necessary to get the job they want. The courses allow participants to improve their job knowledge and expertise through online classes that can lead to a National Career Readiness Certificate, a credential documenting an individual’s ability to succeed in the workplace.

The online training courses use Worldwide Interactive Network (WIN) career readiness courseware, designed to help anyone update their skills. WIN online training is also available at no cost to employers who want to update their employees’ knowledge and abilities. Businesses may be eligible for additional services including WorkKeys assessments that can help with soft skills such as teamwork and timeliness.

The first component is preparing a job profile that determines the skill level needed for specific jobs or occupational skills. Once a career area of focus is established, WIN career readiness courseware will determine any possible skills gaps and provide instruction in many topics including applied mathematics, reading for information, teamwork and applied technology to help bridge educational voids. After a participant masters job skill concepts using WIN, he or she may take assessments known as WorkKeys, which measures the skill level attained. Upon completion and passage of the WorkKeys assessments, the individual may receive a National Career Readiness Certificate documenting their achievement.

WIN online training courses are free and open to all Hoosiers. Prospective applicants can register online at www.in.gov/dwd/2710.htm, or at a local WorkOne. Once enrolled, participants can take courses from any computer with Internet access. Computer access is available at every WorkOne. A full list of WorkOne locations can be found online at www.workoneworks.com.
