Scroggins, who had worked as Valpo’s Vice President for Administration, also will serve as the University’s treasurer and chief financial officer while continuing to lecture on occasion in graduate-level classes in Finance and Financial Management.

“I look forward to continuing my work with the talented students, faculty and staff at this wonderful institution,” Scroggins said. “Valpo has remained diligent and innovative to maintain its financial well-being, and I’m committed to working with a talented team to build upon a great foundation.”

Scroggins joined the staff in 1996 as an assistant controller and gradually rose through the ranks of the University’s financial leadership team. Prior to her promotion, Scroggins oversaw Valpo’s Human Resources, Procurement, University Police, Emergency Management and Facilities Management Services departments. She also played key roles in the development of the University’s financial analysis and reporting group, tax-exempt bond issuance and compliance, and Title IX administration.

“Susan has been a valuable member of the staff for more two decades and I’m pleased she’s taking a larger role on our leadership team,” said Mark A. Heckler, Ph.D., president of Valparaiso University. “I’m certain Valpo’s financial health will remain strong under her stewardship.”

Current Senior Vice President and CFO John Palmucci will remain at the University for the next few months as a senior advisor during the transition. Palmucci, who joined Valpo in April 2014, will focus on the University’s real-estate and property interests as well as several large construction projects during his remaining months at Valpo.

Scroggins, a Certified Public Accountant, held leadership positions in the private sector before joining the University. She earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Valpo and holds a bachelor’s degree in organizational management from Calumet College.

She’s also a member of the board and Finance Committee of the United Way of Porter County and active supporter of the Central Association of College and University Business Officers (CACUBO).
