Another great employee at FirstLight HomeCare is Denise Cook, the General Manager. Denise has been with FirstLight since May of 2015 and she has loved it ever since.
“I’ve been in the health field for 15 years and I was looking for something new,” Denise said. “I know Jim and Michelle [Alex] because our kids go to St. Paul School together and we were friends before I came here.”
Denise went to school at Ivy Tech in Valpo to learn about computer information systems. She began working for an eye doctor after that and has stuck in the health industry ever since. Her job is to make things run smoothly behind the scenes so that caregivers can do their jobs.
“I love being able to take care of employees so that they can concentrate on their jobs,” Denise said. “Since FirstLight is nonmedical there is a lot more freedom in the way I can work.”
Denise’s daily tasks include: billing, recruiting caregivers, payroll accounting, and managing the office staff.
“Michelle and Jim are great people to work for,” Denise said. “They are very laidback and big on work/family balance. We have fun here.”
Outside of work, Denise is busy raising her two kids, a 13-year-old daughter and a 3-year-old son. She also dabbles in photography when she has time.
