At The Lakes of Valparaiso, a phenomenal maintenance crew takes care of resident needs in a positive, courteous manner. For Terry Little, being a part of that team is something to take pride in.
Starting his maintenance career as a teenager within his dad’s roofing company, Little’s been a worker, project manager, a Marine Corp. heavy equipment operator, and much more throughout his life. With decades of experience in the construction industry, Little puts his experience and expertise to good use at The Lakes.
“We get work orders and our supervisor will distribute what he wants us to do,” Little said. “It can be anything from air conditioners to a faucet needing adjusted. We pick up the grounds, [and] I take care of the pool, vacuum it and keep it nice and warm.”
For Little, taking care of the community is a fantastic way to spend his days. Each day he heads to work excited to interact with his coworkers, his supervisor, and the residents whom he’ll inevitably help throughout the day.
“I love coming to work. I get up every morning looking forward to the day,” Little said. “I guess it’s the support here. It’s not that you have to know everything; there’s somebody to help you if you aren’t knowledgeable. I feel comfortable knowing that I have that support.”
The support Little finds at The Lakes is put to great use as he interacts with residents. By taking a few extra steps during maintenance work, he ensures that residents feel secure and comfortable with someone entering their home to make repairs.
“I try to call to let them know I’m coming over. Plans change or they could have forgotten,” Little said. “I always give a courtesy call and we leave them a note so they know what we did and what time we were there. We do courtesy calls, make sure it’s locked up and secure. I go that extra step.”
