Life is Covered Thanks to SERVPRO

It takes a lot of time and people to share good news here at the Life HQ. We have a lot of important things here at our office that help us get the good news out to all of our readers. And if something were to happen and we weren't prepared... then it wouldn't be very good news.

Luckily, we have a great partnership with SERVPRO of Porter County. With their help, we now have an Emergency READY Profile!

What's an Emergency READY Profile? Great question! It's a plan that has all of the things you need ready in one place that you can access quickly in case of an unlucky event like a fire or flood in your place of business.

Greer Evans and Rob Brenda of SERVPRO came out to the office and conducted a free assessment to get our profile started. They tagged important things, like shut-off valves and fire extinguishers, with big orange tags so we can't miss them. They snapped pictures with their phones and put them in the handy app that is connected with the assessment.

"My main goal is to help you guys save time and money," Evans said. "When disaster hits you can save you business from so much damage with our Emergency READY Profile."

Evans and Brenda sat down and explained the app to me and how to use it. Evans had our profile ready on the app and showed me how to enter information into it. Important contacts like NIPSCO and the local police department were added in, information on the property, the location of the aforementioned shutoff valves and fire extinguishers, and more. The profile is password protected so no random Joe can get into it without my say so.

Having all of this information at the touch of a button means that you can get things done quickly and accurately. And time is money. Also, you can access it anywhere. If you're away from your office and you get a frantic phone call from an employee asking for direction to quell a bad situation, you can open your app and tell right over the phone what they need to do or who they can call.

And more than one person can access an Emergency READY Profile. Let's say I have the profile and I want Lady Lifer Jenny Craig to be privy to it, I can share it with her - either as a read only or I can give her the power to edit. Now, if there is an emergency and I'm not available, she can take care of business by pressing a few buttons.

As time goes by the contents of the profile will need to be updated. Phone numbers change, businesses change, etc. Anyone who has editing power on your Emergency READY Profile can update the content from their phone or computer.

So you should really get an Emergency READY Profile for your home or business. It's free and you aren't obligated to buy anything. You can expect these advantages:

  • A Profile Document that contains critical information needed in case of emergency
  • Instructions to help owners get back into their home or business quickly and safely
  • The local SERVPRO becomes your mitigation and restoration provider
  • Line of command is identified to save valuable time and money
  • Important facility details such as priority areas, priority contact information, and shut-off valve locations are provided

Evans said that many businesses won't reopen after a severe incident due to the cost of repairs. Knowing what to do quickly can prevents that and save thousands of dollars. Any business owner should consider getting a Emergency READY Profile. You'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
