With storm clouds on the horizon, the Crossroads Regional Chamber of Commerce threw their annual blockbuster party, the Crown Point Corn Roast. Featuring more than 60 vendors representing premier restaurants and services in the Region, endless ears of corn, and family-friendly entertainment, the Corn Roast packed the city square well into the night.
For 40 years, residents and visitors have gathered in the heart of Crown Point for the roast, hosted by the Crossroads Regional Chamber. This year’s festivities featured the popular Kids’ Zone bounce house area, the Dollie and Friends Parade, and live music by Jamrose.
“This is all about family,” said Lee Hartsell, Office Manager at the Crossroads Regional Chamber. “People can come out, have a good time with friends and family, and enjoy the beginning of summer. It also gives all of our businesses the opportunity to showcase what they can do.”
Vendors included theCrown Point Community Library, local Girl Scouts troops, State Farm agencies, and more. They offered various games, prizes, and activities at each of their stalls.
“This is a longstanding tradition for Crown Point,” said Sue Reed, President and CEO of the Crossroads Regional Chamber. “It’s the first festival of the summer and it brings the community and businesses together to showcase what a great city this is. It also gives our businesses and restaurants a way to interact and promote different foods and amenities that they have as well.”
On the first day of the fest, children marched along with square in the Dollie and Friends parade, carrying or pushing their doll collections in strollers,accompanied by Disney princesses like Snow White and heroes like Superman. Attendees also enjoyed a cornhole tournament, corn on the cob eating contests, and more. State Farm Account Representative Sarah Alderson, a first time Corn Roast attendee who recently moved to Crown Point, won the adult eating contest.
“No one ever expects a girl to win or even to do something like that, so I had to prove them wrong,” Alderson said. “Overall, this is a great festival. There’s a ton of stuff to do, booths to visit, and a lot of really good food to eat.”
The summer is only just getting started for the Chamber. Next week, they host their second big event, the Food and Arts Festival, featuring restaurants, a beer garden, and live musical performances. Learn more about the Crossroads Regional Chamber of Commerce at www.crossroadschamber.org.
