Holidays are Brighter for Deserving Members of Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County

Shop-with-a-Member-006A new coat. A new pair of boots. The toy that they have always wanted. On December 10th, 24 members of Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County spent the morning shopping for much needed items with volunteers at the 2nd annual “Shop with a Member” Day. Funded by a generous gift to Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County by an anonymous donor, “Shop with a Member” provides a special holiday shopping experience to deserving club members.

Volunteers from ArcelorMittal served as “Santa’s elves” as club members, donned with Santa hats and wish lists in hand, descended upon the Portage Super Kmart to purchase needed clothing, outerwear, shoes and other items on their list. ArcelorMittal volunteers shopped with the children to help them manage their allocated shopping funds, make good purchasing decisions, and share the excitement of finding that special gift. “Spending time as an ‘elf’ for the Boys & Girls Clubs today was beyond a blessing. The experience was ‘priceless.’ Seeing joy in the children’s eyes lifted my heart and mind.” said Tiffany Jaynes, Customer Service Representative, ArcelorMittal Burns Harbor Plate.

“The Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County ‘Shop with a Member Day’ was a wonderful experience, not only for the children, but for our many volunteer employees as well,” said Jolice Pojeta, Corporate Responsibility and Communications Manager, ArcelorMittal Burns Harbor. “During this season of giving, this event certainly got everyone in the holiday spirit. ArcelorMittal is proud to be a community partner with the Boys & Girls Clubs, and we certainly appreciated the opportunity to participate in this very special and memorable holiday event.”
