The 16th annual Indiana Academic 2012 Elementary Math Bowl Competition took place on Thursday, March 1st at Morgan Twp school. Cooks Corners Elementary in Valparaiso, won 1st place in Porter County with a score of 22. Friday afternoon State results were released, with Cooks Corners winning 2nd place in the entire state of Indiana!
Each schools team consisted of 4 smaller teams that worked together to complete 7 math problems, plus a tie breaker in the event one was needed. Family and friends gathered Thursday evening to watch the event unfold. After the 4th round scores were shown, the students and crowd erupted with cheer when they realized Cooks had won the competition.
The Math Bowl team is coached by teachers Megan Singel and Stacy Allison. Cooks Corners team members are Jillian Burton, Maia Danger, Zach Johnston, Natalie Keen, April Kinman, Alaina Kurt, Hannah Lopez, Emma Lovett, Abe Ringenberg, Nate Smith, Jake Snider, Sade Yrjola and Mimi Wong.
