The Weathermen

Tiger Cub Pack 927 learned about what's been on everyone's mind lately, "what's up with the weather?" They identified symbols the meteorologist often uses and drew them on a weather map. We talked about weather conditions, weather terminology and even created a high and low front by doing a simple experiment. First, a plastic bottle was filled with a few inches of warm water, a lit match was placed inside, then the bottle was immediately capped.

We swirled the bottle gently and squeezed hard. This created a fog which mimicked a high front. Once the bottle was released, the fog cleared and this mimicked a low front. We also played a relay game called "cubby cloud chasers" whereby each team raced across the room pushing a "cloud" (balloon) with any part of their body to get it to the other side. The scouts commented that this was their favorite meeting so far. But, this Saturday we'll all be out at Opportunity Enterprises' field launching our handmade rockets. They might change their mind after Saturday's event......stay tuned!
