VHS Inducts Class of 2014 National Honor Society Students

valpo-2013-nhs-induction-1Dressed to impress, Valparaiso High School juniors filled the auditorium Monday night to join the ranks of the VHS National Honor Society.

Inductees are selected by their teachers, and display the key traits of dedication to academic study, strength of character, and a willingness to lead. The 104 new inductees will spend the next year serving the community through a number of service projects while continuing to excel academically.

valpo-2013-nhs-induction-2“Inductees are always a great crop of what VHS has to offer in academic, character, and scholarship leadership,” said an NHS leader and VHS faculty member Miguel Rosario-Vega.

The main focus of NHS is encouraging students to be an example to their peers, in both the classroom and the community.

“The National Honor Society of Valparaiso High School contains students that have a heart to help those in need,” said NHS secretary Emma Kurt.

Throughout the year, NHS members serve the community in a variety of ways. They tutor struggling students at Benjamin Franklin Middle School throughout the year as well as volunteer for larger projects such as a book move for the Kiwanis Club.
