The Engineering and Technology Department at Purdue University North Central (PNC) did a fantastic job presenting the various talents of their soon-graduating, enthusiastic students. Thomas R. Brady, Ph.D. and Dean of the College of Engineering and Technology made sure to express just how proud he was of the graduating seniors.
“They have come a long way on their technological journey here at PNC. I am happy to see them all succeed and grow, providing us with a better and brighter future,” Brady said.
This Senior Showcase demonstrated the four major areas of the Technology Department available at PNC: Mechanical Engineering and Technology, Electric and Computer Technology, Construction Engineering and Management Technology and Computer and Information Technology. Prospective students attended this event along with brothers, sisters, parents and a couple children of the presenters.
Last year, the American Society of Mechanical Engineering Student Design Competition highlighted the remarkable genius of a group based out of the Engineering Department at PNC and this year they received the honor again. Team Ripsaw members, Tek Lentine, Michael Smeets and Tom May, competed in this prestigious contest and obtained third place in the region (comprised of 16 states). They created a self-guided autonomic robot through rigorous brainstorming and shared vision.
“We are very pleased with the final outcome of Ripsaw and we hope to help other mechanical engineering students. They can build a machine that astounds those around them and, at the same time, themselves,” Lentine said.
Three groups of students also worked on a project requested by the Keystone Pipeline Construction & Maintenance Facilities. The soon-to-be-graduates had to make sure their designs were turnkeys from north to south; in other words, they needed to assemble a single construction that worked in every possible situation.
Senior Project Videos were also highlighted—these included: Electric Vehicle, PLC Control of an Industrial Casting Machine, Applying Engineering Standards to Product Development and Green Energy Simulator.
