Junior Girl Scouts Explore Sunset Hill County Park

Troop-86-TentJunior Girl Scout Troop 86, 4th graders at Central Elementary School in Valparaiso, recently spent a day at Sunset Hill County Park picking up trash and learning how to be comfortable in the out of doors. The girls learned how to build a fire, cooked their lunch and S’Mores over the fire, took an observation hike, learned hiking songs, and practiced pitching a tent.

These activities were part of the “Girl Scout Ways” badge which helped the girls explore the past 100 years of Girl Scouting. They looked through Girl Scout Handbooks from 1930 and 1933 and compared the badge requirements with the ones in the current Junior badge book.

Pictured (left to right) in the tent they pitched are Troop members Grace Brown, Lily Marion, Brooklyn Smiley, Miranda Bognar , Melissa Kawicki, Niamh Berg-O’Reilly, Hannah Letany, Lindsey McKay, and Anja Wagner.
