The Early Childhood Education Committee of the Porter County Safe Schools Commission to host Education Discussion on July 31, 2014

Hilltop-LogoProviding a safe and security for a childcare facility is an important part of a childcare facilities job. The unfortunate events in Newtown, Connecticut on December 14, 2012 forever changed the way educators plan for safety in their schools. Childcare Centers are often limited in their resources to both plan and train staff and volunteers for emergency situations of all kinds.

The Early Childhood Education Committee of the Porter County Safe Schools Commission has assembled a team of experts to help childcare providers begin the often difficult discussions needed to establish working safety plans for their centers.

Please join us on July 31st 11:30 am at Strongbows Restaurant in Valparaiso to hear Keynote Speaker Lisa Battista Petrovich, present “If it Could Happen to Us.”

Mrs. Petrovich, her husband, Steve and their three children have been residents of Sandy Hook, CT for 20 years. All three of her children attended Sandy Hook School and she served on many committees at the school, including PTA President. She worked in the front office of the school until January 2012 and she is currently employed at another school office in the Newtown Public School district.

Directly following the presentation, Porter County Safe Schools will host a panel of experts to answer professional questions on best practices to begin discussions with childcare center managers and families.
