PurdueLogoMore than 100 faculty research projects will be featured when Purdue University Calumet hosts Faculty Research and Scholarship Day Tuesday (10/21) on campus in Alumni Hall of the Student Union & Library.

For the first time, Purdue Calumet faculty researchers will be joined by colleagues from Purdue University North Central in presenting their scholarly activity. Research posters will be displayed beginning at 12:30 p.m. Poster presentations take place between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Discovery of knowledge and solutions
“Faculty research significantly impacts people and society by contributing to the discovery of knowledge and solutions to many real world problems,” Purdue Calumet Associate Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies / Professor Chenn Zhou said.

A complete list of featured research projects can be accessed at http://webs.purduecal.edu/orgs/faculty-research-day-2014.

The afternoon event also includes two panel discussions: one by student researchers focusing on “A Glimpse into Transitioning from Student to Scholar”, from 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., and the other by faculty researchers about “Diverse Methodologies”, from 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Research contributes to better teaching
“By staying in touch with breaking developments in their field, faculty researchers become better teachers and mentors,” Zhou said. “Faculty researchers also can provide great research and learning opportunities for students.”

In addition to showcasing and celebrating faculty scholarship, Faculty Research and Scholarship Day is designed to promote faculty-student interactions through research and to encourage interdisciplinary collaborations. The event is jointly sponsored by the Office of Research and Graduate Studies, the Faculty Research Board and the Student Research Council.
