Thomas Jefferson Spell Bowl Wins at Willowcreek Invitational

2014-Spell-Bowl-WillowcreekThe Thomas Jefferson Middle School Spell Bowl team continued its winning ways Wednesday evening with a win at the Willowcreek Invitational. Team members spelled 67 out of 72 words correctly to bring home the blue rosettes.

Spelling flawlessly was de rigueur for captain Antonio Rosario, aided by Keaton Olson, Shannon McCall, Haley Klein, Lily O’Quinn, Teresa Nelson, Erin Rockhill, and Isabel Pati. Spellers had to maneuver through several corrigible words on their way to the win. Periscopic sight, while illegal in competition, would have been helpful!

Scorecard flippers Aubrey Krieger and Lauren Skadberg supported the team, along with Maggie Etzler and Annabel Murley. Vanessa Phipps and Michelle Song participated on a blended team in order to gain valuable competition experience. Neither wanted to be a wastrel and miss an opportunity to improve!

Team TJ is now prepping for the Area meet on Tuesday, November 4, at Kankakee Valley Middle School. This contest will determine qualifiers for the state competition at Purdue University on November 15.
