The Purdue University Calumet women's soccer team earned another academic honor when four players were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Women's College Division Scholar Athlete all-region team, as released by the organization.
Seniors Rachel Shmagranoff (Munster, Ind./Munster) and Isabella Parrilli (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East), junior Kirsten Nirtaut (St. John, Ind./Hanover Central), and sophomore Kara Polus (Crown Point, Ind./Lake Central) were all named to the All-North/Central Region.
Shmagranoff, a senior who graduated with a degree in biology and a perfect 4.0 on Thursday, earned her second-straight honor, as she was named an honorable mention in 2013. The forward led the squad with eight goals and added four assists for a team-best 20 points in 2014.
Parrilli a defender majoring in human development and family studies, earned a 3.33 G.P.A. in the classroom to qualify for her first award. Parrilli played in all 18 games, starting 13 on the Peregrines' back line.
Nirtaut, a communications' major with a 3.37 G.P.A., also earned her first award. The forward played in all 18 games, starting 13, and finished with two goals and six assists on the year. The six assists were a team-best.
Polus, a sophomore forward majoring in biology and pre-physical therapy with a 3.37, also earned her first award after starting 15 games in 2014. She finished her first season in a Peregrine uniform with two goals and three assists for seven points.
The Peregrines finished the year with a 7-11 overall record, including a 3-8 mark in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference action. The 2013 squad was honored earlier this month with a NSCAA Academic Award for its combined 3.15 grade point average, and senior Rachel Shmagranoff was also named a Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-American and All-District honoree and a NAIA Daktronics Scholar-Athlete to round out the Peregrines' academic accolades this fall.
