IU Northwest to Host 60th Annual Calumet Regional Science Fair on March 13-15

rot1Lake County elementary through high school students who earned honors at their individual school and district science fairs will display their projects at the 60h Annual Calumet Regional Science Fair, hosted by Indiana University Northwest on March 13 through 15.

Open to the public on Saturday, March 14, the event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in IU Northwest’s Savannah Center Gymnasium.

After presenting the results of their individual research projects in science, engineering and math categories to a panel of judges, an awards ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. Another awards ceremony is scheduled for 2 p.m., Sunday, March 15 where the more prestigious awards will be bestowed.

Top achievers in the Upper Elementary Division (grades K through 5), Junior Division (grades 6 through 8) and Senior Division (grades 9 through 12) will go on to compete at the Hoosier Science and Engineering Fair at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis on Saturday, March 21. Winners at the Hoosier Science and Engineering fair will advance to the International Science and Engineering Fair in Pittsburgh on May 10 through 15.

The panel of judges is comprised of faculty members from IU Northwest, Purdue University Calumet, Ivy Tech Community College as well as IU Northwest students and community businesspeople.

The Savannah Center Gymnasium is located on the southeast corner of the main campus parking lot at 33rd Avenue and Broadway in Gary, one half-mile south of I-80/94.
