Register today for the Discoveries Unlimited STEM Mentor Program

On-line registration is now open to sixth grade Valparaiso female students interested in participating in the STEM Mentor program. Discoveries Unlimited is dedicated to helping girls discover and support their interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) through mentoring.  The STEM Mentor program consists of mentoring teams which are created between a student and a person who works in a STEM field. The Mentor will guide the student as she explores education and career paths of an area in STEM.

The STEM Mentor program requires monthly face-to-face meetings outside of school hours and additional weekly contact between the Mentor and student either in person or via secured and monitored email exchanges or chat sessions. Mentor session format topics will include goal setting/attainment, industry issue/problem-solving discussions and career/education exploration.  All Mentors are interviewed and screened by Discoveries Unlimited and will pass a thorough criminal background check prior to being matched with a student.

The STEM Mentor program is offered free of charge. The only requirements are that participants are sixth grade female students attending one of Valparaiso’s Middle Schools and participants have an interest in an area of STEM. A small number of openings remain for the Spring STEM Mentor program. Deadline for registration is December 11, 2009.
