IU Northwest Announces Veterans Dental Health Project

rot1Indiana University Northwest’s Dental Education Department is thanking all veterans for their service by offering free dental exams and treatment. The endeavor is being launched in partnership with the Northwest Indiana Dental Society and the Northwest Indiana Dental Hygienists’ Association.

Veterans of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, or Indiana National Guard living in Lake County, Indiana are eligible for free dental screenings on Friday, May 22. Appointments are being accepted between 8 a.m. and noon at the IU Northwest Dental Clinic, located on the first floor of the Dunes Medical/Professional Building, directly across from the Gleason Golf Course on Jefferson Street. Free parking is available in marked lots only.

Veterans must bring photo identification showing residency, along with a copy of service discharge documents and a copy of all prescription medications and their dosages.

Those who qualify for additional treatment will be referred to local volunteer dental offices or the IU Northwest Dental Clinic for follow-up care at no cost. Free treatment consists of necessary extractions, fillings and cleanings.

Patients are responsible for their own transportation. Dental and financial need will be considered for qualification. This is a volunteer charitable program and is not subject to or supported by any government entity. Some treatment will be rendered by student dental hygienists and assistants under the supervision of IU Northwest faculty members.

Walk-in appointments will not be accepted. For more information, or to make a screening appointment, call (219) 644-9961.
