Valpo’s Deb Butterfield Named to Ivy Tech Board of Trustees

Governor Mitch Daniels has appointed three new members to the Ivy Tech Community College Board of Trustees. The appointments include Debora K. Butterfield of Valparaiso, Richard Halderman of Wabash, and Leslie C. Shively of Evansville.

Butterfield is an experienced marketing and communications executive and has worked in community and economic development management for 15 years with two chambers of commerce in Indiana. In 2006/2007, she guided Porter Hospital through its media and public scrutiny throughout a process to sell the hospital and redirected the focus back to Porter’s mission of delivering quality health care to the people of Northwest Indiana. In addition, she is a member of the Porter County Community Foundation, Valparaiso Parks Foundation, Valparaiso Parks Board of Commissioners, City of Valparaiso Plan Commission, Adult Education Alliance, Purdue North Central Chancellor’s Advisory Board and Center for Workforce Innovations Strategic Skills Initiative Executive Team. Butterfield earned her Bachelor’s of Arts degree from Indiana University.

Richard Halderman is CEO and a founding member of Teays River Investments, LLC, and has been involved in real estate acquisitions and strategic investment opportunities since 1992. He also established Agricultural Real Estate Investors, LLC in 2004 as an institutional manager of farmland investments. In addition, he is director of International Farmland Holdings LLC, a large scale farming operation in South America that owns and operates more than 600,000 acres. Halderman began his career working for the Halderman family business, Halderman Farm Management Service, Inc., serving as Vice President and as President of Halderman Real Estate Services. The Halderman Companies are one of the largest farmland managers in the U.S. with more than 265,000 acres under management and 40 employees. He earned his Bachelor’s of Science in Agriculture Economics from Purdue University and was named the University’s Distinguished Agricultural Alum in 2008.

Leslie C. Shively is founder of Shively and Associates, P.C. and currently serves as President of the Indiana State Board of Law Examiners. In addition, he has served as General Counsel for the Evansville Area Association of Realtors, Attorney for the Town of Chandler, Attorney for the Vanderburgh County Election Board, and Attorney for the Warrick County Area Plan Commission. His previous governmental appointments include membership with the Indiana State Student Assistance Commission, Indiana University Board of Trustees, and Vanderburgh County Election Board. Shively has also served as an adjunct professor of law at the University of Evansville. He has also served on various community organizations including Community Action Program of Evansville, Conrad Baker Foundation, Operation City Beautiful, and Vanderburgh County American Cancer Society to name a few. Shively earned his undergraduate degree, law degree and MBA from Indiana University.
