Purdue Seeks New and Beginning Indiana Farmers

PurdueLogoPurdue University is inviting new farmers to complete an online survey titled “Survey of Beginning Farmers in Indiana.” The survey will help Purdue researchers and Extension educators to better understand the current practices, preferences, needs and concerns of new and beginning farmers in Indiana who operate or are interested in operating a small farm, and to identify ways to better serve this population.

The survey takes 15-30 minutes to complete. Participation is voluntary, and responses will be kept confidential. For the purpose of this survey, Purdue is using the following definitions:

  • Beginning farmers are considered as (1) anyone who has been farming 10 years or less, or (2) anyone who is interested in starting a farm.
  • Small-scale farmers are those farmers who operate 250 acres of land or less.
  • Veteran farmers served or are serving in the U.S. Military

Participants are asked to save the link as they will need it again, if they wish to take a break, and will need to use the same computer to finish the survey at a later time. New farmer participation is extremely important for this study.
