Purdue Northwest Fitness Centers at Westville and Hammond Campuses are Available to Area Residents

Purdue-Northwest-colorThis week’s historic opening of Purdue University Northwest’s first academic year at two Northwest Indiana campuses also signals the availability of comprehensive exercise facilities at both PNW campuses.

A new, comprehensive Fitness Center has opened on the Westville Campus in the recently-constructed James B. Dworkin Student Services and Activities Complex. It complements the well-established Fitness Center located at the Hammond Campus in the Fitness and Recreation Center.

Full service centers
Memberships are available for community residents, PNW students, faculty, staff, retirees and their spouses, as well as alumni to use either facility. Both centers offer a wide range of aerobic, strength training, functional fitness and sport-specific exercise and training equipment plus a jogging-walking track. Exercise classes are held at the Hammond center and are coming soon to Westville.

“We at Purdue Northwest are pleased to further our footprint of commitment to physical fitness and wellness across our campuses’ Northwest Indiana service area,” PNW Director of Fitness John Bobalik said.

Hours open
Both centers are open 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Fridays. Each facility also is open Saturdays—9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Hammond and noon to 5 p.m. at Westville. The Hammond center is open Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.

Both centers are closed most holidays.

Certified staff
Certified exercise physiologists and other credentialed professionals staff each center. Among their responsibilities is that of teaching proper use of the exercise equipment and assisting members who want to develop exercise programs based on personal fitness objectives.

“Our staff takes great pride providing all Fitness Center members the personal and professional attention they desire—whether they are first-time exercisers or elite athletes,” Bobalik said.

Both PNW Fitness Centers also serve as laboratories for student interns enrolled in PNW’s fitness management program.
