PNW Assisting St. Joseph’s College Students

Purdue-Northwest-colorIn response to a request from nearby St. Joseph’s College to help students of the Northwest Indiana-based institution continue their education, Purdue University Northwest is introducing a special transfer student merit scholarship program.

St. Joseph’s College announced Feb. 3 that it plans to suspend activities at its Rensselaer campus at the close of the current semester.

Through the new program, current St. Joseph’s students with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 who transfer to Purdue Northwest next fall will qualify for a $2,000 annual scholarship. The scholarship will be renewable for up to three years of undergraduate study. Additionally, students who transfer to PNW with a 3.0 to 3.49 gpa will qualify for a $1,000 annual award renewable for up to three years.

Transferring St. Joseph students who qualify for the PNW scholarships also will be eligible to receive other institutional, federal or state assistance, including merit and athletic scholarships.

“We very much regret the unfortunate challenges that have burdened St. Joseph’s College,” Purdue Northwest Chancellor Thomas L. Keon said. “During these trying times, the top priority of both our institutions is to establish options that allow students to continue their education without interruption.”

Purdue Northwest’s Enrollment Management staff will make scholarship applications available, as well as facilitate visits to PNW’s Westville and Hammond campuses.

“At a time when St. Joseph’s is demonstrating a sincere commitment to address the future of its students, we at Purdue Northwest are committed to creating opportunities,” PNW Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs Carmen Panlilio said.

Students of St. Joseph’s College interested in the transfer scholarship program should contact PNW’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions at 219-989-2213. Details about the program are available at www.pnw.edu/st-joseph-scholarship.
