Local VNA Volunteer Publishes First Book

Judys-bookJudy Bornstein, a local Hospice volunteer with the VNA of NWI, had a dream come true when her first book, “Hold My Hand: All About the Blessings of Volunteering,” was recently published on Amazon.

Of the many ways to volunteer, “Hold My Hand” highlights one woman’s dedication to visiting the lonely, the sick, and the dying. In doing so, Ms. Bornstein found her own life after decades of loneliness. In often unexpected times and places, this 81-year old first-time author shares the blessings of her journey, reminding others that they are not forgotten, and proving that old age can be an attitude of gratitude. At a time when most people are concentrating on retirement, she has found the joy of loving and giving as she shares her faith journey in this book.

The author brings a cushion of calm to reassure people in need in her church, her neighborhood, in hospitals, and in nursing homes that they are not forgotten. Having spent decades living in the Southern United States, Ms. Bornstein returned to Northwest Indiana to be closer to her family. Since then, she has become a trained VNA Hospice Volunteer who also sings at the bedside of the dying and is affectionately known as “The Singing Lady.”

Ms. Bornstein has received many local, county, and state honors for her volunteer work, including Valparaiso Kiwanis Volunteer of the Year, United Way Volunteer of the Year award for Porter County, VNA Hospice Volunteer of the Year for Northwest Indiana, and Leading Age Volunteer of the Year for the State of Indiana.

Ms. Bornstein has dedicated a portion of the proceeds from sale of her book to support the VNA Hospice program. The book is available at Amazon.com at www.bit.ly/JudysBook
