The first semester event sponsored by the IU Northwest chapter of the National Society for Leadership & Success will take place via a live satellite feed on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 6 p.m. in the Library Conference Center (Room 105ABC).

The presentation, entitled ‘Your Success Capacity’, will include a presentation by Shawn Harper, a former NFL player.

Harper’s unique ability to engage and inspire his audiences stems from his rags-to-riches background that enables him to connect with people from all walks of life. Born and raised in poverty, Harper overcame the seemingly insurmountable obstacles of four learning disabilities, speech challenges and the lowest GPA in his high school class.

He rose from his disadvantages to win several national achievement awards, played on multiple NFL teams, blocked for two Heisman trophy candidates and two all-pro running backs, and currently serves as CEO of American Services and Protection in Columbus, Ohio.

Harper’s presentation will address several topics, including learning simple techniques to expand your success toolkit; expanding your ability to accomplish goals and dreams; and focusing on becoming your personal ally rather than enemy.

The public is invited and encouraged to attend this presentation by one of America’s fastest-rising speakers.

The IU Northwest chapter of Sigma Alpha Pi, the National Society of Leadership and Success, provides its member students with leadership training, individual coaching, networking opportunities, and an online job database.

Nationally, Sigma Alpha Pi has nearly 59,000 members at more than 160 participating institutions, including IUPUI. In January 2009, IU Northwest became the second IU school to join the Society.

The Library Conference Center is located on campus along 35th Avenue in Gary.
