Dec. 4 event to debate legalization of marijuana, voting behavior and obesity health issues, among others 
Hear original speeches on social and cultural issues from Indiana University Northwest students at the upcoming Fall Speech Forum held on campus Saturday, Dec. 4 from 10 a.m. until noon in Raintree Hall (Room 102).
Each semester, IU Northwest students enrolled in public speaking classes compete by delivering speeches on a wide variety of subjects. Select topics for the upcoming event include generational differences in the use of digital devices; the legalization of marijuana; why one should vote; Alzheimer’s disease; benefits of eating avocadoes; obesity health issues; sudden infant death syndrome, among other themes.
Student speakers are responsible for selecting their own topic based on personal interests. Speeches must be five to seven minutes in length or risk disqualification.
A panel of judges chosen from the university and the community score the speeches and the top three students receive plaques.
The campus and greater Northwest Indiana community are invited to attend the Fall Speech Forum.
Raintree Hall is centrally located on campus, just south of the main campus parking lot along 33rd Avenue.
