What Parents Need To Know About Teen Drug Use

family-youth-services-bureau-logoThe Family & Youth Services Bureau is offering a free workshop for parents as part of the Family Life Workshop Series.

Titled “Undoing Drugs: What Parents Need To Know,” the workshop is led by Dr. Mann Spitler on Tuesday, January 29th from 6 to 7:30 pm, at the FYSB downtown Valparaiso office, 253 W. Lincolnway, Valparaiso.

Topics included are how to discover the most predictive risk factor for drug use; learning why adolescents seek to alter their consciousness; developing effective parenting prevention techniques; and learning the signs and symptoms of drug use.

Dr. Spitler is a Certified Prevention Professional and speaks to schools and organizations about teen drug use. His genuine presentation can be useful to parents as he speaks from the perspective of a parent whose daughter died from an self-induced overdose of heroin in 2002. At the workshop he will focus on parental methods to protect children from drug experimentation and subsequent addiction.
