Housing Opportunities Clients Love Girl Scout Cookies

Housing-Opportunities-Clients-Love-Girl-Scout-Cookies-Troop-11-donationThomas Jefferson Middle School 6th grade Cadette Girl Scouts recently proved that they don’t just peddle cookies. They donated 62 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to Housing Opportunities for their clients. Troop 11, led by Norena Kazmierczak, Susan Treble, and Erika Watson, voted to donate the ever popular cookies as part of the their Gift of Caring charity. Housing Opportunities helps low income and homeless families by offering temporary and permanent housing, access to a food bank, money management training, and job preparation skills and training.

With the average age for a homeless person in our community at 6 years old, the Cadette Girl Scouts felt their donation would show the children that helping those in need is part of the Girl Scout program. The largest girl-run organization in the United States, Girl Scouting is open to all girls in grades K-12. Volunteer leaders are trained to offer girls a variety of age-appropriate activities from exploring math and science to cooking, crafts, and camping.
