Through its senior of the month program, the Duneland YMCA Senior Center commemorates the life of its members. This month the Y is honoring Ben Bolton. Ben was born in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania on September 5, 1928. He cherishes many memories of this small Pennsylvania town where he attended elementary, middle, and high school. He later obtained his Bachelor's Degree in chemical engineering from Lafayette College and his MBA from Northwestern University. His two years of service in the army developed in him a singular love of his country. For 32 years after this he worked for BP/Amoco in Whiting.
Ben treasures his three sons, Aaron, David, and Steven, and his daughter Sara. His three sons live in Chesterton and his daughter in Granite Bay, California. His two grandchildren, Kelsey and A. J., live in Chesterton. Their proximity makes it possible for him to truly enjoy the privilege of being a grandfather!
Travel has been a joyful element in Ben's life. He treasures memories of visits to Hawaii, Alaska, California, Texas, Arizona, Washington, and a most memorable trip to France. His meal-time favorite is pizza along with the entrees surrounding a great meal of it.
For Ben, every day of fitness activities and opportunity to build friendships at the Y are singular opportunities to live the best of life. He feels his past and present life has been a singular blessing. The Y is presently a great part of it!
The Y's Senior Center promotes friendship and fitness through its Silver Sneakers and Building Fit Friends classes. Participants also enjoy field trips to restaurants, movie days and other activities. Through these programs, active older adults have the chance to connect and foster friendships while remaining active in the community. The Senior Center is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday every week from 10:15 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Most activities are free of charge and all community Seniors are invited to attend.
