Valparaiso-Area-Girl-Scouts-Camps-a-Cooking-Collage-2016”Camps-a-Cooking” was the theme for the recent Girl Scout Day Camp at Camp Butternut Springs in rural Valparaiso. Over 110 Daisy, Brownie, Junior, and Cadette Girl Scouts from Valparaiso and surrounding communities spent a week learning how to cook their lunch over a campfire, as well as typical camp activities such as hiking, fishing, archery, canoeing, singing, crafts, and making new friends. Forty adult volunteers were also at camp during the week to help the girls have a safe and fun week.

Thursday evening brought parents and families to camp where the Girl Scouts showed what they had learned at camp. A ceremony to dispose of old US Flags and the traditional and impressive San Salvador torch ceremony was the highlight of the evening with girls singing familiar Girl Scout songs and rededicating themselves to Girl Scouting.

Junior and Cadette Girl Scouts had the privilege of staying overnight at camp on Thursday for a pizza dinner, studying the stars through telescopes and spending a fun night with new friends.
