Valpo Public Works Hard at Work Clearing City Streets

Valpo-Public-Works-snow-removalThe Public Works snow removal team in Valpo, as well as the state teams, have been hard at work these past 24 hours. With 130 miles of streets and 134 cul-de-sac to clear, working first thing in the morning throughout the night, these guys help keep our streets safe.

With the constant snow falling as fast as it has, it may seem like the snow removers are not hard at work but you have to take into consideration several factors. The side streets have to be plowed along with the main routes, which leads to treacherous plowing conditions. The plows have to navigate around parked cars and stuck cars, slowing up the process. Equipment has to be refilled with gas and salt and when a hydraulic line busts or the salt spreader breaks down, time is spent in repair and other plows have to make up the difference .

Next time you think the snow removers are not keeping up with the weather, consider these factors, along with the reminder that they are working 12 hour shifts and fighting the weather just like the rest of us, along with unforseen conditions. To the Valpo Public Works, keep up the hard work!
