Lake County Public Library’s Director Retires and is Honored as Distinguished Hoosier

Larry-AcheffLake County Public Library bid farewell to the Director, Larry Acheff, who retired at the end of 2011. Mr. Acheff joined the Lake County Public Library staff in 1985 as the Assistant Director and has been Director since 1999. During his time, he has been involved with the building of the new St. John Branch Library, the Cedar Lake Branch Library, and the Lake Station-New Chicago Branch Library, as well as the remodeling of the Hobart Branch Library, Highland Branch Library, Munster Branch Library, and the Dyer-Schererville Branch Library. He was also very instrumental in creating and maintaining the library’s cost containment plan in order to make sure the Lake County Public Library continued to thrive during these hard economic times.

In honor of his accomplishments and hard work, Mr. Larry Acheff was awarded the Distinguished Hoosier Award by the Governor’s Office on December 29, 2011.
