Mining Jobs and Partnerships in Hangzhou

Our first visit was with the President of Zhejiang, University, Wei Yang,  at the main campus.  We toured the sprawling campus, one of five in the province with a total student count of 100,000.  IU President, Michael McRobbie and Purdue Provost, Vic Lechtenberg were instrumental in engaging the dialogue.  Dr. Yang outlined his ambitious plans for campus improvements surpassing 3B over the next 5 years, which impressed the delegation.

After stopping at a tea Garden to learn about the differences in green, black and white tea (and how to tell good quality from bad) we met with the Zhejiang Investment Center to discuss expansion opportunites in Indiana.  The 2 1/2 hour meeting was very fruitful.

Governor Daniels and Commerce Secretary Mitch Roob prepare to address the Investment Group.  After this event we headed for another meeting and banquet, but this time with the Governor of the Zhejiang Province and his officials.  Following the meeting we feasted on rare treats such as shark fin, sea cucumber and prawns.  I ate anything that was not still alive when it hit my plate.  Tomorrow we fly to Tokyo.
