Tim Bucher Appointed to Valpo Redevelopment Commission

city-of-valparaisoMayor Jon Costas has appointed Tim Bucher to the Valparaiso Redevelopment Commission.

“We’re excited to have Tim add his expertise to the Redevelopment Commission. His experience as the owner of a longstanding successful business, coupled with his involvement on the East Porter County School Board, gives Tim a valuable perspective for the commission,” said Costas. Bucher will represent local schools on the commission.

Bucher has been a member of the East Porter County School Board since 1996. East Porter County Schools boasts some of the state’s highest ISTEP scores and graduation rates. Bucher is also active in Kiwanis and as a community volunteer. He is President of Bucher Tech, a Valparaiso-based company that employs 15, providing information technology services and products throughout Northwest Indiana. Bucher is also a lay pastor at the Apostolic Christian Church in Valparaiso. Tim and Julie Bucher have been married for 37 years and have four children, plus four grandchildren.

“We are very pleased that a member of the East Porter County School Board will now be a member of the Valparaiso Redevelopment Commission,” said Rod Gardin, Superintendent of the East Porter County School Corporation. “Like all of our school board members, Mr. Bucher has a deep knowledge of the work of the Redevelopment Commission and the use of TIF to finance the projects that the RDC has undertaken. That knowledge combined with his understanding of school funding will be important in advising the RDC in their work and project development."

Bucher replaces Jim Jorgensen on the RDC. Jorgensen was an original member of the RDC, which was established in 1993. As a member of the School Board of the Valparaiso Community Schools, Jorgensen served as the nonvoting member of the RDC during his most recent term. “We’re very grateful to Jim Jorgensen for his decades of service to the RDC and thank him for his expertise and commitment to our community,” said Costas.

The Valparaiso Redevelopment Commission is a six-member board, including one non-voting member representing local schools. The mayor appoints three voting members and one nonvoting member, and the Valparaiso City Council appoints two additional voting members. For more information, visit Valpo.us.
